Weekend plans: February 16 & 17
It’s Fri-yay! Which means it’s time to lock in plans for the weekend, and what a feast of things to get out and see and do…
Cityscape’s top picks for this weekend:
1. Nostalgia Festival, Saturday Feb 16, Ferrymead
Featuring Trinity Roots, Soaked Oats, Mama Kin Spender and so many awesome musos, coupled with fab food and oodles of refreshments in the beautiful Ferrymead Historic Park. Head down to Blue Smoke afterwards for more fun from Soaked Oats – free entry for festivalgoers!
2. Sparks, Saturday Feb 16, Hagley Park, 7.30pm
A Christchurch tradition. Pack up the kids, the picnic hamper and the cushions and be blown away by the spectacular Christchurch Symphony Orchestra’s programme of traditional classics to modern favourites. Rounded off, of course, by a sensational fireworks display around 10pm.
3. Night Noodle Market, until Sunday Feb 17, Hagley Park
If you can’t be bothered with a picnic for Sparks, cure the cravings with the Night Noodle Market. The feast favourite shuts up shop for another year on Sunday, but will be open from 1pm on Saturday and 4pm on Sunday so you’ve still got a couple of days to experience the Asian pop-up sensation.
4. Summertimes Lazy Sundays, Sunday Feb 17, 3pm, Botanic Gardens
Your last chance this summer to kick back and enjoy free sounds in the most glorious surrounds. Featuring Lloyd and Dublet and The Ranchsliders, take along a picnic, the kids, and your dancing shoes.
5. Blackcaps v Bangladesh, Saturday Feb 16, 11am, Hagley Oval
The second ODI kicks off on what should be perfect cricket weather – not too hot, not too cold. Prep for a great day of exciting sporting action.
