Websites and apps to help you stay active

Keeping active is so good for your mind, body and soul. While going to the gym or on a long run may be out of the question for now, we’ve discovered some cool companies that are bringing the fitness goods to your living room.



Grassroots Yoga & Health are the home of inspired hatha yoga, taught with skilful alignment, awareness, intention and heart. They recently posted their first 40-minute session on their Facebook page (@GrassrootsYogaChristchurch) to help keep you moving. It’s a simple and sweet one – experienced yogis can expand on these poses, or if you’re new to the practice you can easily simplify the moves. Veronica, who is at the helm of this awesome business, is working on a virtual studio as we speak so stay tuned!

Les Mills On Demand brings you the best, authentic Les Mills workouts anywhere, anytime and on almost any device. The service provides customised workouts, most only lasting 20 – 30 minutes, so you could totally smash out a couple each day. You’ll also gain access to loads of nutritional info to improve your training. On television, Les Mills has teamed up with TVNZ during the lockdown period to bring some bangin’ fitness classes that will air each weekday from 9am, or at 3pm on TVNZ 2 and OnDemand.

Christchurch City Council is offering online fitness classes to help keep you active. They’re posting a range of different classes each day on the Christchurch Recreation and Sports Centres (@ChchRecSport) Facebook page. The classes include a stretch and release class, a BAT conditioning class, which focuses on legs with some upper body and core work, and a mindfulness class that will take you through breathing techniques to have you feeling calm and aware.
