Our Stories Make Us, 2018 - Ollie Moginie Re:ACTIVATE

SCAPE Public Art

SCAPE Public Art offers aspiring artists and designers under the age of eighteen the chance to be selected to have their artwork produced in public space in the annual Re:ACTIVATE Aspiring Artists: Junior and Senior competition. This was one of the winning artworks.

The local environment, particularly our braided rivers, is very important to this artist who created this work to represent its fragility and unique state of balance. Each stick represents an individual part of our environment, and together they form one beautiful sculpture representing New Zealand. The sculpture is held together by each stick and if we let one of them go, for example letting our rivers become polluted, then the whole sculpture will fall apart, and it will just be a flat pile of sticks.
